Manchester Town Hall Unwrapped!

On Saturday 11 Feb. the Society hosted its first event of the year. Mark Watson of the Victorian Society and the EWS had been given permission to photograph the restoration work in progress at the Town Hall. Mark was able to show us the extent and complexity of the work being undertaken. A four year project at a cost of in excess of £325m.

Opened in 1877 this grade 1 listed building by Waterhouse, is being made suitable for use during the next hundred years. Many parts of the building had not been seen or accessed since it was built, but now made possible by being encased in more than 3000 tonnes of scaffolding.
