Edgar Wood Society – AGM and Annual lecture – 26th October 2019

On Saturday 26th October, we had our annual general meeting, which like all others before it, was a quick race through the business section to the main item, the Society’s Annual Lecture. This year was the first to be held in the newly restored Edgar Wood Rooms at the Arts & Crafts Church, Long Street Methodist, Middleton.  This year’s lecture was called, The Edgar Wood Centre – a Masterpice of Design. It was given by the Society’s Chair, David Morris, who explained how the unique design of the Edgar Wood Centre, Manchester, originally the First Church of Christ Scientist, evolved through a long series of changes. The church was built in three distinct phases and the final design was very different from the initial sketches.

A good time was had by all, including a good chat and catch up at the end.

If you missed it, David will give the same lecture to the Victorian Society next year.
